Frequently asked questions ... and some honest answers!
- Will my host family live near school?
All students would like to live only a few hundred metres from the school, but in reality this is impossible to arrange. You should be prepared to travel to school each day by bus. A weekly bus ticket costs about 14 - 15 pounds. Your host family will help you and provide regarding the local bus routes and how to get to school.
We are not able to guarantee this, because many host families with teenage children do not have a spare bedroom. Your family will more likely have younger children or no longer have children living at home. What we try to ensure, is that they will give you a warm welcome, are friendly, and help you to enjoy your stay in England.
We always do our best to match a student with their host family, and we fully appreciate that adult students often have different requirements to younger students. We think you will be comfortable and made to feel very welcome. many of our adult students form lasting friendships with their host families. In most instances, host families do not have a separate bathroom for students and we would certainly recommend you bring a ‘dressing gown’. If you want to guarantee your own bathroom, please ask your local representative for a quotation, for accommodation, in a Bed & Breakfast hotel.
All students take an assessment test on the first morning at the school. This assists us in making sure you are placed in the correct group. With group lessons there are always going to be some students who are slightly above or below the average level. Your teacher will adjust the tuition to take into account different ability levels. If qou find the lessons are too difficult or easy, please speak to your group leader, or in the case of our courses in Oxford, The Director of Studies. The situation will be discussed with the teacher and the Director of Studies and your level reassessed. Our aim is always to ensure you go home with improved English Skills and that you enjoy the course.
